Miss Shannon has fun with the kids in the afternoon!  This project is science based.  These young scientists are learning about sinking, floating and predicting.  Having opportunities to put ideas into words is valuable for language development.  Learning to take turns and listen gives rise to social skills.  There certainly is a lot going on!  Thank you, Miss Shannon!

Emmett holds our book, Pumpkin Jack, and Jeremy proudly holds our “Jack”! The book is written and illustrated by Will Hubbell.  “The first pumpkin Tim ever carved was fierce and funny, and he named it Jack.  When Halloween was over, Tim set it out in the garden, and throughout the weeks he watched it change.  After the winter snow, all that was left was a stem, some seeds, and a crumpled pumpkin skin.  But in the spring, there was another change- a plant began to grow . . .” Such a delightful story!  We will also watch our Pumpkin Jack change.  This activity teaches the life cycle of a pumpkin and important vocabulary: rotting, decomposing, mold, life cycle, observe.
